Ola Electric’s S1X 3 kWh and 4 kWh E-scooters Get PLI Compliance Certificate

Ola Electric’s S1X 3 kWh and 4 kWh E-scooters Get PLI Compliance Certificate

Ola Electric, one of the leading electric two-wheeler manufacturers in the country, has achieved another new milestone with its mass-market scooters S1 X 3 kWh and S1 X 4 kWh now getting Certification for Compliance with the eligibility assessment requirements as per the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for the automobile and auto components.

Both the e-scooters have successfully met the stringent minimum 50 percent localisation criteria as mandated by the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI).

With this, Ola Electric has become the only two-wheeler and pure-play EV manufacturer to receive the certification for compliance with the eligibility assessment requirements (PLI certificate) for four products – S1 Air, S1 Pro, S1 X (3 kWh, and 4 kWh). The company had earlier received the certificate for S1 Air at the Auto PLI Conclave organised in January 2024.

“S1 X 3 kWh and S1 X 4 kWh together contribute to almost half of our revenues, and with the PLI now in place, we will be able to further improve our bottom line. Receiving the PLI certification for the premium and mass-market products affirms our vertically integrated manufacturing strength marking a significant achievement in advancing India's EV vision. The government's ambitious Auto PLI Scheme is poised to enhance local supply chains, foster domestic manufacturing, and assist companies in achieving economies of scale,” stated an Ola Electric spokesperson.

The certification has been granted by The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) after testing the product and checks on the localisation of the components. Under the scheme, Ola Electric is eligible for incentives for up to five consecutive financial years, commencing from Fiscal 2024. The incentive would range between 13 percent and 18 percent of the ‘determined sales value’ (DSV) of the products.

Ola Electric has also been awarded 20GWh capacity by the government under its PLI scheme for Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Battery storage in March 2022. The company is eligible to receive incentives under the Cell PLI scheme over a five-year period from the date of commissioning of the  Ola Gigafactory in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu.

Epsilon CAM And C4V Sign Agreement For Cathode Material Qualification In North America

Epsilon CAM - C4V

Epsilon CAM, one of the leading battery cathode active material manufacturers, and cell technology firm C4V have signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to evaluate and qualify lithium iron phosphate and bio-mineralised lithium mixed metal phosphate cathode active materials.

The agreement establishes a framework to evaluate Epsilon CAM's cathode materials for cell-level integration across C4V's battery platforms and North American manufacturing programs, including those operated by sister company Near Prime Technologies.

As per the arrangement, Epsilon CAM will provide material samples and engineering data for testing, including electrochemical performance validation, cycle-life evaluation and process compatibility assessments. Subject to technical qualification and definitive contracts, the firms plan to explore multi-year material supply arrangements and technology integrations.

The evaluation will assess supply-chain sourcing for critical raw material inputs, including lithium, manganese and phosphorus, to align with North American content requirements.

Epsilon CAM is advancing plans for a 20,000-tonne-per-annum cathode active materials plant in India by 2028, positioning its production as a non-foreign-entity-of-concern source for global cell manufacturers.

Vikram Handa, MD, Epsilon CAM, said, "This LoI brings together complementary capabilities across cathode materials, cell technology and manufacturing. Our focus is to demonstrate material performance at the cell level and to work with C4V toward scalable, high-quality LFP and LMFP solutions that address the evolving needs of battery manufacturers and automotive customers."

Dr. Shailesh Upreti, CEO, C4V, said, "Epsilon is helping address one of the most important gaps in the U.S. battery supply chain: reliable access to scalable, ex-China phosphate cathode active materials. C4V is currently evaluating Epsilon’s materials through our Digital DNA qualification process for potential use across C4V cell platforms and U.S. manufacturing programs at Near Prime. Successful qualifications would create an important pathway connecting advanced cathode materials with C4V battery technology and domestic cell manufacturing."
