Scania Setting The Stage For Sustainable Transport At IAA

Scania Setting The Stage For Sustainable Transport At IAA

Swedish truck manufacturer Scania is all set to showcase its versatile range of electrified and biofuel heavy trucks, including a brand-new battery electric tractor, at the IAA Transportation event in Hannover from 17 to 22 September. Along with these trucks, new efficiency enhancing and cost-saving services will take centre stage with a focus on sustainability, digitalisation and complete solutions for the transport industry.

Among the vehicles on display at Scania’s stand at IAA, the EM C1-4 Tractor stands out with its 728-kWh installed battery capacity, which is achieved by adding a seventh battery pack under the cab. This is projected as the volume powertrain in Scania’s portfolio of BEVs. It is the equivalent of a 13-litre combustion engine and comes with a range of at least 530 kilometres. Then there is the P160+ swap-body BEV truck, representing Scania’s most powerful electric machines, which is available in two power levels, 400 or 450 kW. With a 6x2 configuration and a maximum range of more than 500 kilometres, it can charge from empty to 100 percent in 85 minutes under the right conditions.

Next is the Scania R 660 truck, built for the toughest conditions and featuring Scania’s legendary V8 engine, which can run on HVO or other biodiesels, reaching CO2 reductions of up to 90 percent. Irrespective of the fuel used, the truck’s 660 hp and 3,300 Nm of torque will deliver under the toughest conditions and the most demanding operations. And then there’s the Scania Super R 460, the latest winner of the German Green Truck Award. This 13-litre truck provides customers with a choice of compressed and liquified biogas, the latter with ranges up to 1,800 kilometres.

Stefano Fedel, Executive Vice President and Head of Sales & Marketing, Scania, said, “We are focusing on bringing new energy to all the transport buyers that are committed to reducing their carbon footprint. Regardless of their individual operation, Scania can create a modularised solution for them to suit their specific needs. Nothing makes me prouder than our capacity for making exactly the right solution for every individual customer. For instance, we now have three different electric machines that are available in nine power output levels, which is outstanding. And the same goes for our battery packs: Scania’s modularised thinking makes for optimised customer solutions where customers can have the right amount of installed energy on their trucks and gain payload.”

On the digital front, Scania is introducing two new services that are based on digitalisation and Scania’s vast experience of connected vehicles. By cranking up the connection between the My Scania portal and the Scania Driver app, the interaction inside the companies will also become easier and more efficient. Positioning, checks before driving, remaining drive time and other crucial tasks become effortless to manage.

Christian Levin, President and CEO, Scania, added, “Customers can now benefit from greener options without adversely affecting normal operations and thereby help set the stage for a fossil-free future of heavy transport. Meanwhile, electrified transport depends on a whole ecosystem. To be the best partner to our customers we must offer more than vehicles. Additionally, our support includes charging infrastructure, battery performance monitoring, dynamic route planning, financing and many other services. Over the past two years, we’ve worked hard to get all of that in place.”

Mitsubishi Motors To Produce Hybrid Vehicles In The Philippines Under EVIS Programme

Tesla Adds Its First Charging Station In Navi Mumbai

Tesla

Tesla has announced the commissioning of its first in-mall charging location at Nexus Seawoods in Navi Mumbai. This site provides eight chargers, expanding the company’s charging infrastructure to locations where customers spend time, such as retail destinations and highway rest stops.

The new station, located in the B1 parking area of the mall, features a combination of direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) charging options:

V4 Superchargers: Four units providing peak charging speeds of 250 kW. A Model Y can add up to 275 km of range in 15 minutes using this technology.

The charging process is integrated with the Tesla app, which allows owners to navigate to stations, precondition vehicle batteries, monitor stall availability, and complete payments. The company reports a claimed global charging uptime of 99.95 percent.

With the addition of the Navi Mumbai site, Tesla now operates five charging locations across India, totalling 20 Superchargers and 14 Destination Chargers.

Kia Wins ‘Best Manufacturer’ Title At Top Gear EV Awards 2026

Kia Wins ‘Best Manufacturer’ Title At Top Gear EV Awards 2026

Kia has been crowned ‘Best Manufacturer’ at the TopGear.com EV Awards 2026, a significant honour in UK’s electric vehicle calendar. These annual awards, now in their seventh year, celebrate the top-performing EVs on the British market while recognising the manufacturers that truly drive the industry forward. This latest accolade follows closely on the heels of another triumph for the brand at the BBC TopGear.com awards, where the PV5 Passenger was named ‘Family Car of the Year’.

Kia’s electric journey began in 2014 with the first-generation Soul EV, ending its first full year of EV sales with just 149 registrations. By the close of 2025, however, that figure had surged to over 94,500 fully electric vehicles sold in UK, supported by a diverse lineup including the EV3, EV4, EV5, EV6, EV9 and PV5. Looking ahead, the EV2 represents the next phase of the brand’s ‘Plan S’ strategy, which started with the EV6 in 2021. Designed and manufactured in Europe exclusively for that market, this compact and affordable model packs premium, segment-above technology into a bold, boxy body.

First examples of the Kia EV2 are due to arrive later in 2026, joined by high-performance GT versions of the EV3, EV4 and EV5. These launches underscore Kia’s continued commitment to expanding its electric footprint with accessible yet advanced vehicles.

Ollie Kew, Deputy Editor, TopGear.com, said, "Whether you’re in an EV3 or the enormous EV9, the sleek EV6 or the boxy PV5, there’s a familiar sortedness running through the e-Kias like the proverbial stick of rock. Reliable range, unfussy performance, pleasing comfort... and the confidence to bookend its EV ranks with an entry-level EV2 alongside a GBP 83,000, 500-bhp super SUV in the shape of the EV9 GT.”

Paul Philpott, President and CEO, Kia UK, said, “We’re honoured to have been named Top Gear’s Best Manufacturer for 2026. This recognition follows a busy year for the Kia brand, with the launch of eight new products in 2025, including EV4, EV5 and PV5. This recognition reflects the strength and breadth of our electric lineup, and our commitment to delivering innovative, desirable and accessible EVs for our customers.
