Toyota Kirloskar Motor Unveils Rumion MPV

Toyota Kirloskar Motor Unveils Rumion MPV

In what could be termed yet another badge engineering endeavour, Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM) has launched the Rumion, marking its foray into the versatile B-MPV segment.

Save for the front grille that looks inspired by that of the Innova Hycross, the Rumion looks like the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. Rather than to get the Avanza MPV to India, TKM has wisely decided to badge engineer the Ertiga the way it has done in case of the Glanza and Hyryder, which are uncannily like the Maruti Baleno and Brezza respectively.

Powered by a 1.5-litre engine that could be had in petrol form (where it produces 101.6 bhp of peak power and employs a mild hybrid tech consisting of a starter-generator arrangement) and in CNG form (where it produces 86.6 bhp of peak power), the Rumion could be had with a five-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. There’s cruise control too.

Available in six variants (S MT, S AT, G MT, V MT, V AT and S MT CNG), the Rumion is equipped with dual front airbags, front seat side airbags, ABS, EBD, Brake Assist, Engine immobilizer, ESP and Hill Hold (in the case of automatic transmission trim). Capable of seating seven people, including the driver, the MPV flaunts a premium dual-tone interior with front auto AC, second row roof mounted AC, flexible seating options and steering mounted controls for audio and calling.

A seven-inch touchscreen is part of the Rumion’s infotainment system that includes Toyota i-Connect with smartphone and smartwatch connectivity. There’s also wireless android auto, apple car play and Arkamys Surround Sense for immersive audio experience.

Offering remote control of climate, lock/unlock, hazard lights and headlights, the Rumion is expected to be priced close to Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.  Toyota Kirloskar Motor will announce the price of the MPV across its six trim levels soon.
