- May 21, 2025

Pune-headquartered alternative energy vehicle company EKA Mobility has been awarded the Automotive Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Certificate (Under Advanced Automotive Technology Vehicles) by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI).
The certification recognises EKA’s compliance with the stringent eligibility requirements laid out under the PLI scheme for advanced and indigenised electric vehicle platforms.
Dr Sudhir Mehta, Founder & Chairman, EKA Mobility, said, “Securing the Automotive PLI Certificate for the EKA bus platform reflects the evolving readiness of India’s EV manufacturing ecosystem to deliver globally benchmarked, locally engineered mobility solutions. The certification affirms the significance of a vertically integrated approach where product development, supply chain localisation and advanced technology converge to create commercially viable electric vehicles. As India accelerates its transition to sustainable transport, such recognitions help catalyse deeper industry-government collaboration and reinforce the potential of indigenous innovation to lead the shift.”
EKA Mobility’s e-bus platform has been built with a focus on modular architecture, local value addition and technology, aligned with the objectives of the PLI scheme and the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
The bus platform features a streamlined monocoque chassis and lightweight construction, the platform's modularity makes it easy to adapt to varying bus lengths, allowing for versatile configurations based on specific operational needs. The company shared that the platform is designed to offer a low total cost of ownership (TCO), making electric mobility more profitable, accessible and viable for mass adoption.
Oben Electric’s O100 Platform To Spawn 100cc Equivalent E-Motorcycle
- By MT Bureau
- May 21, 2025

Bengaluru-based electric vehicle start-up Oben Electric has announced that it is working on its second indigenous electric motorcycle platform – O100, which will mark the company’s strategic entry into the entry-level motorcycle segment, albeit in an electric avatar.
The 0100 is conceptualised and engineered at Oben’s R&D centre in Bengaluru and will compete in the mass market motorcycle segment priced under INR 100,000. This, the company believes, will help it enter the mass-motorcycle segment, which currently makes up for almost 30 percent of India’s two-wheeler market.
The O100 platform supports multiple variants, different battery options and functionalities tailored to different customer segments. The launch is planned in the second half of 2025.
Madhumita Agrawal, Founder and CEO, Oben Electric, said, “At Oben Electric, we design and build with intent - to solve real-world mobility challenges. Our new platform, O100 is engineered for India’s mass daily commuters and aims to make electric motorcycles a practical reality for every Indian. Leveraging our proprietary LFP battery technology and other critical components including motor, VCU, and chargers, all developed and manufactured in-house, we’ve built a robust, vertically integrated foundation for a new generation of electric motorcycles, accelerating EV adoption across urban and rural India alike.”
At present, the EV maker offers the Oben Rorr and Rorr EZ based on its ARX platform, which are positioned in the premium commuter segment. The company is also expanding its dealer footprint in Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 cities across India, with plans to cross 100 showrooms by the end-2025. It expects the new O100 platform to provide multifold growth to Oben and its dealers, increasing sales per store and providing one of the best ROIs for the highly optimised and already profitable distribution network.
Folks Motor Secures INR 1 Billion For EV Supply Chain Fund
- By MT Bureau
- May 19, 2025

Folks Motor, a start-up focussing on electric powertrain retrofit solution, has announced that it has secured INR 1 billion towards its ‘Folks Funds,’ an alternative investment fund (AIF) category II, which targets to raise INR 5 billion by end-2025.
The fund aims to bolster India's electric vehicle supply chain and local manufacturing capabilities. Folks funds is claimed to be India's first ESG-focused investment fund catering to EV supply chains for its consolidation and to aggregate the demand of EV systems and components.
A portion of the fund will be allocated to developing ‘The Blue IP,’ which the company claims is India's first xEV-focused warehousing and industrial park in Sonipat, Haryana. This initiative is designed to support the EV ecosystem by providing infrastructure for manufacturing and logistics.
The fund's investments will focus on areas such as powertrain systems, energy storage, Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) and system integration. The objective is to achieve a minimum of 50 percent domestic value addition in line with government policies promoting local manufacturing.
Folks Motor is in discussions with state governments in Telangana and Karnataka to expand its investment footprint.
The start-up claims that India's EV market is experiencing growth, with sales surpassing 2 million units in 2024, marking a 25.4 percent year-over-year increase. However, localisation levels for critical components like motors and controllers remain at 30-40 percent, indicating an opportunity for domestic manufacturing.
The EV sector is also a driver of employment, with projections estimating the creation of 5 million direct and 30 million indirect jobs by 2030.
Nikhil Anand Khurana, MD & CEO, Folks Motor, said, “Our vision with Folks Funds is to redefine India’s position in the global EV supply chain. With the Blue IP and our strategic partnerships, we are not just building infrastructure – we are building future-ready ecosystems for sustainable manufacturing. This fund is a step towards Atmanirbhar Bharat, enabling domestic innovation and job creation while attracting global interest in Indian-made EV components. Besides this, the fund will also focus on retrofitment technologies, which are critical to extending the lifespan of existing vehicles and reducing operational costs for commercial fleets. This dual approach supports both green mobility and economic efficiency.”
