Flipkart Drives Into Two-Wheeler Market With Festive Push
- By MT Bureau
- September 20, 2025
Flipkart, a leading e-commerce giant, is revving up its offerings ahead of its annual Big Billion Days sale, aiming to become a top destination for buying two-wheelers.
The company is betting on a wider selection of both traditional and electric bikes, along with new financing options and a recent GST rate cut, to attract buyers during the festive season. The e-commerce giant's push comes as more consumers are comfortable making large purchases online.
Sujith Agashe, Vice-President of Electronics at Flipkart, said, “Purchasing a two-wheeler is a significant decision for many, and we’re seeing a growing number of consumers choosing digital platforms for the convenience and transparency they offer. The demand for two-wheelers on Flipkart has grown three-fold in the last one year which reinforces customers’ validation of our customer-centric initiatives. This festive season, we’ve further streamlined the experience, from product discovery to financing, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free process for our customers. At Flipkart, we’re committed to showcasing how a fully digital journey, supported by trusted partners and robust customer service, can make two-wheeler ownership more accessible and convenient across the country.”
To meet this demand, Flipkart has significantly expanded its two-wheeler portfolio. The platform now features a wide range of vehicles, from commuter bikes and scooters to high-performance and premium motorcycles. Top brands like Hero MotoCorp, TVS Motor Co, Bajaj Auto and Suzuki Motorcycle India are available, as are major electric vehicle players such as TVS iQube, Chetak, Ather, Vida, Ola and Ampere.
Adding to the lineup, Flipkart will launch Royal Enfield Motorcycles during the Big Billion Days event, further diversifying its premium selection. The platform will also feature motorcycles from Jawa Yezdi, KTM and Triumph.
A key factor in Flipkart's strategy is making two-wheelers more accessible. The company is offering flexible financing solutions, including a fully digital loan process powered by HFCL and IDFC First Bank, with EMI options extending up to 48 months. Credit card no-cost EMI plans of up to 24 months are also available, alongside exclusive offers for Flipkart Axis Bank Card and SBI Card holders.
This focus on affordability is well-timed with a recent GST rate revision, effective 22 September 2025, which reduced the tax on two-wheelers below 350cc from 28 percent to 18 percent. This tax cut, combined with Flipkart's festive deals, is expected to make this an ideal time for many consumers to purchase a new vehicle.
Flipkart has also invested in simplifying the ownership journey, aiming to make it a fully digital process. Customers can complete everything from booking and vehicle registration to insurance purchases from their homes. The platform ensures authenticity by partnering directly with manufacturers, who then handle fulfillment and after-sales support through their authorized dealers. To assist buyers, Flipkart has a dedicated team of two-wheeler experts available 24x7 to answer questions about products, financing and delivery.
Government Of India Approves INR 72.8 Billion Scheme For Rare Earth Permanent Magnet Production
- By MT Bureau
- November 26, 2025
The Union Cabinet, Chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Sintered Rare Earth Permanent Magnets with a financial outlay of INR 72.8 billion.
The initiative aims to establish 6,000 Metric Tonnes per Annum (MTPA) of integrated Rare Earth Permanent Magnet (REPM) manufacturing in India. The government states this will enhance self-reliance and position India as a key player in the global REPM market.
REPMs are types of permanent magnets vital for electric vehicles, renewable energy, electronics, aerospace and defence applications. India’s demand for REPMs is met primarily through imports, but consumption is expected to double by 2030 from 2025.
The scheme will support the creation of integrated REPM facilities, covering the conversion of rare earth oxides to metals, metals to alloys and alloys to finished REPMs. This step supports the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan and India's Net Zero 2070 commitment.
The total financial outlay of INR 72.8 billion consists of INR 64.5 billion towards sales-linked Incentives on REPM for five years. While the remainder INR 7.5 billion towards capital outlay for setting up 6,000 MTPA of manufacturing facilities.
The total capacity will be allocated to five beneficiaries through a global competitive bidding process, with each receiving up to 1,200 MTPA of capacity.
The scheme duration is seven years from the award date, including a two-year gestation period for setting up the integrated facility and five years for incentive disbursement.
The government states this initiative is a step towards strengthening the domestic REPM manufacturing ecosystem and enhancing competitiveness in markets globally.
Shailesh Chandra, President, SIAM, “The Indian automobile industry welcomes the Government of India’s newly announced scheme to promote the domestic manufacturing of Rare Earth permanent magnets, with an allocated outlay of INR 72.8 billion. This initiative is a significant step toward building a resilient and stable supply chain, particularly for components and sub-assemblies essential for the production of electrified vehicles.
The scheme is expected to accelerate adoption of clean mobility solutions and support India’s broader sustainability goals. By strengthening indigenous manufacturing capabilities, it will contribute to reducing carbon emissions and lowering dependence on crude oil imports, further enhancing the nation’s energy security.”
Vikrampati Singhania, President, ACMA, “ACMA wholeheartedly welcomes the Cabinet’s approval of the REPM Manufacturing Scheme. This is a strategic and forward-looking intervention that addresses one of the most critical gaps in the EV and advanced mobility ecosystem. Rare Earth Permanent Magnets are foundational to electric motors and high-efficiency systems, and the establishment of a domestic, integrated manufacturing base will significantly strengthen India’s technological competitiveness. This initiative will not only reduce import dependence but also provide long-term resilience to the automotive supply chain, encourage investments in advanced materials, and position India strongly in global value chains for EVs and clean energy. We commend the Government’s vision and remain fully committed to supporting the industry in leveraging this opportunity for innovation, value creation, and Atmanirbhar Bharat.”
Stephane Deblaise, CEO, Renault Group India, “The Government’s decision of investing INR 72.8 billion for India’s first integrated Rare Earth Permanent Magnet manufacturing scheme is a pivotal step in strengthening the nation’s self-reliance aspirations. This initiative reflects India’s strategic intent to strengthen its rare-earth refining capabilities and accelerate high-value manufacturing. For the automobile sector, localizing rare earth magnets will boost growth for both auto OEMs and component manufacturers, support clean energy powertrains, reduce import dependence, deepen the domestic value chain and enhance long-term competitiveness. We welcome this vision and look forward to contributing to a robust, future-ready mobility landscape that supports India’s sustainable growth and its ambition to become a global automotive hub.”

- November 24, 2025
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has unveiled the Toyota Experiential Museum (TEM) in Bengaluru, which it said is a new cultural and lifestyle hub for the company. The space combines Indian philosophy with Japanese culture and technology.
Located on the ground floor of the Phoenix Mall of Asia, TEM is spread across 8,200 sq ft and offers a five-senses experience, blending Japanese minimalism with Indian warmth through visuals, sounds, scents, textures and flavours.
Tadashi Asazuma, Deputy Managing Director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said, “At Toyota, our vision of creating ‘Happier Paths Together’ goes beyond mobility – it is about inspiring experiences that connect people, cultures, and emotions. With TEM, we hope to offer a truly unique experience that embodies this spirit.
In India, we found inspiration in the practice of Sadhana – the mindful pursuit of inner balance and fulfilment. TEM is where the Japanese culture and values of precision, serenity, and respect for nature beautifully align with the spirit of Sadhana, making TEM a meaningful blend of both. Designed to engage the senses and spark reflection, it brings together art, technology, and craftsmanship to inspire mindfulness, especially amongst the youth.”
The museum features minimalist interiors and distinct aesthetics designed to spark curiosity, inviting guests to explore at their own pace. The journey begins with a mirrored and rhythmic experience of the changing seasons common to Japan and India, unfolding through infinite projections of light, colour and motion. It then rises into a celebration of shared passion, featuring an audio-visual collaboration with DRUM TAO. A display includes a water curtain encircling a car draped in satin.
A design cafe offers a range of merchandise blending heritage with contemporary lifestyle, celebrating simplicity and craftsmanship.
The TEM cafe features a curated menu that blends the Japanese tradition of matcha with Indian flavours. Highlights include the India-inspired mango infusion.
